Terminal Convention 2011
Terminal Convention will be an internationally significant art, film, music and discursive event featuring some of the worlds leading and emerging international artists, musicians and academics. The project takes place 17-27 March 2011, and is set in the former Cork International Airport, Ireland and Cork city centre music venues.

The project will also be the subject of an international publication and documentary and elements of the event will also be streamed live on the internet.

The concept for the project has been developed by Static Gallery, Liverpool, an arts organisation with a track record of delivering medium to large-scale art, music and symposium events.

Terminal Convention consists of four strands, Exhibition, Symposium, Art Fair and Music Event, and each element is interrelated in terms of subject and experience and many of the participating artists, musicians, academics, cultural commentators and the public will engage in all of the platforms.

We are very pleased to announce that the Exhibitions Curator for Terminal Convention 2011 is Peter Gorschlüter (Peter is Deputy Director of MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt am Main).

Participating artists include Rosa Barba, Juan Cruz, Ross Dalziel (Sound Network), Douglas Gordon, Diane Guyot, Martin Healy, Nevin Lahart, Shane Munro, Seamus Nolan, Peter Norrman, Jacqueline Passmore, Le Pavillon (Palais de Tokyo/Paris), Hannah Pierce, Frederic Pradeau, Becky Shaw, Imogen Stidworthy, Padraig Timoney, Adrian Williams.

We are pleased to continue to work with our key cultural partner in Ireland, the National Sculpture Factory who have selected and commissioned the Irish artists Seamus Nolan, Nevin Lahart, Martin Healy for inclusion in Terminal Convention exhibition.

The symposium is partnered by Cork Institute of Technology Crawford College of Art & Design and Liverpool John Moores University School of Art and Design

John Byrne (co-director of Static and Programme leader of Fine Art LJMU) has developed the structure and will chair the symposium entitled: Airport Art: Is it a Terminal Convention?

Confirmed symposium speakers include George Yudice (University of Miami), Charles Esche (Van Abbe Museum), John Byrne (Liverpool John Moores University), Peter Gorschluter (Deputy Director of MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt am Main), Annie Fletcher (Van Abbe Museum) Amanda Coulson (Volta Art Fair), Alistair Hudson (Grizedale Arts), Steven ten Thije (Van Abbe Museum) (full list available January 2011).

In January 2011 we will announce the Live Music artists and Cork city centre venues. Confirmed venue is the Crane Lane Theatre.

The list combines established international acts with the very best of new Irish and Liverpool bands that we feel are most suited to the overall themes of Terminal Convention.

We are currently in the process of inviting the art fair participating galleries/projects and will be able to confirm these names in January 2011.

We are also pleased to announce that the Cork based National Arts Review magazine Enclave Review (ER) will publish an interview between the editor Fergal Gaynor and Paul Sullivan of Terminal Convention in early 2011 and that The Visual Artists News Sheet will run a Terminal Convention interview/article in the Jan/Feb 2011 edition in order to profile the project in advance.

Terminal Convention has been listed by the Irish Times as one of the top 25 events to see in 2011.
